Beyoncé has arrived to the world premiere of The Lion King, which means everyone can step "to the left, to the left."
The superstar singer, who voices the role of Nala in Disney's highly-anticipated "live-action" remake, hit the red carpet with her little mini-me Blue Ivy Carter. The two wore head-turning ensembles that looked fierce and fabulous. Not that we'd expect anything less from Mrs. Carter and her daughter.
From the enchanting silver and black custom design by Alexander McQueen to the multitude of diamond-encrusted pieces decorated throughout both of their blazer gowns, it's safe to say the mother-daughter duo donned fiery outfits that roared loud on the red carpet.
Completing Bey's lewk, she paired her dazzling number with jewel-adorned heels, Lorraine Schwartz jewelry pieces and a glitzy clutch. She was styled by Zerina Akers.

As for her beauty look? Her makeup artist, Rokael kept things snatchural (aka snatched and natural) with nude glossy lipstick, a dramatic smoky eye and luminous skin.

If you are a MUA or make up connoisseur, you are well aware that cleaning , make up brushes can be quite the nightmare. Cleaning my make up brushes would be very tedious, messy, and completely frustrating. However , I believe the powers that be took pity on me, and dropped this sweet little gem in my lap.

I recently attended the iMats make up convention in Manhattan, after spending hours of shopping, and sampling, I stumped upon

Marii Lang's table, she didn't crowd me, she just let me browse. I then asked her about her featured products, and she didn't hesitate to demonstrate how this gem worked, like a pro.

When I got home, I pulled out all my brushes, my favorite ones, my contouring brushes, and lip brushes. I am telling you, Swirl Spakrle worked like charm, definitely a must have.

You can find Swirl Sparle at  Marii Langs' shop on Etsy here:

Young artists in Ghana's capital have evolved a new style that is turning heads and challenging accepted notions of African fashion. Their passions span fine art, graphic design, music and, above all, clothes.
Their outfits get noticed in a city where most men wear conservative Western suits or, on special occasions, shirts made from traditional fabrics. The artists publish selfies on social media, projecting their style far beyond Accra.

The men and women in the group say they want to challenge traditional notions of African fashion, using social media platforms to share their creative outfits.
Aged 19 to 38, they mix tailored jackets, printed T-shirts, vintage dresses, flares and foulards in quirky, sometimes eccentric, ensembles more often seen in London than Accra.

But their unique style has also drawn criticism from the more conservative locals.
"I was told I wasn't going to get a husband. I would be called names on the bus," said artist Sena Ahadji, who used to have a mohawk.

Support from others in the group helped her overcome the negative comments.
"A lot of pressure left me," she said. "I am me. I am African. The fabric doesn't make me African. My hair doesn't make me African, but I know who I am."

Actress Jamie Brewer took to the catwalk last week and made history as the first model with Down syndrome to walk at New York Fashion Week.

Brewer, who is best known for her role in American Horror Story, mad shock waves at Carrie Hammer’s runway show. The show was part of Hammer’s “Role Models Not Runway Models” campaign, which opted to show off the new designs not on models but rather on the women who she envisions wearing her designs.

7 Signs of a Well-Made Shirt with Grant Harris

12/24/2014

DC-based image consultant and style maven Grant Harris of Image Granted, shares his guide to what makes a finely crafted shirt.
Below, Mr. Harris tells us what he looks for in a quality shirt:

The Devil’s In the Details

When it comes to fine clothing and high quality tailoring there are some garments that receive the lion’s share of attention, and deservedly so. The suit, the jacket, footwear, even accessories; specifically the necktie. But ask any clothing enthusiast or clotheshorse; one of the most important but often overlooked elements of the proper wardrobe is the piece that lays closest to the skin. The piece that while mostly hidden from view frames the wearers face, and provides a bit of flash at the wrist when looking at the time or shaking a hand.

This all important garment is the dress shirt. Without it men would be degraded to wearing Neapolitan jackets and Savile Row double breasted blazers over bare hairy chests and pot bellies unworthy of mentioning much less being seen in public. Yes, the shirt is a necessity.  Here, we discuss 7 signs of a well-made dress shirt.

Fabric

Egyptians are known for more than the pyramids. They also produce some for the best cotton shirting material in the world. Long staple, smooth, strong, breathable and crisp. All virtues of quality shirting material.

Pattern Matching

Normally we advise against matching, but this is a rare exception. Aligning stripes at the shoulder, or checks at the placket, or any other pattern imaginable is a feature that creates symmetry in line and shows a level of attention to detail not often seen.

Stitch Count

Just like batting average, SAT scores, or college basketball rankings, the higher the better. This principle also extends to stitch count. The more stitches the stronger, more flexible, and overall aesthetically pleasing the result

Single-Needle Construction

Take a look at the side seam of your shirt. You’ll most likely see two parallel stitches running together. You’ll also most likely see puckering and bubbling on that seam. This is the opposite of single-needle stitching. One needle, one visible thread sewn onto itself creates a smooth, flat seam (sometimes called a French seam) for comfort and aesthetics. The less needles used to create a shirt, the better.

Split Yoke

No we don’t mean cracking eggs. The yoke extends across the neck and shoulders and can either be created with a single piece of fabric or two separate (split) joining pieces. Split yokes provide pattern matching, flexibility by placing the two pieces of fabric at angles that allow them to stretch, and lastly the lack of need to use unsightly darts at the shoulder. They also need to be aligned by hand, requiring a skilled tailor.

Mother-of-Pearl Buttons

Aside from the fabric and pattern of a shirt, buttons are another place to look for quality. Mother-of-Pearl is the industry gold standard. Iridescent, cool to the touch and much more authentic than plastic, MoP for short, is the only choice for high quality shirting. When attached with a hefty, durable shank, they are the epitome of quality.

Button holes

If there are buttons, then there have to be buttonholes as well. Using the high stitch count previously discussed, proper button holes made painstakingly by hand offer stability and guard against fraying overtime through stress.
